Heading down the river, or up to the Causses?

Paddle down the Tarn by canoe

It's the signature activity of the Gorges du Tarn, and it begins right on your doorstep. Several canoe bases operate in the gorges, including Canoë Le Rozier, right next to the campsite: they drop you off upstream and you drift back down the current at your own pace, all the way back to just by the campsite.

• The half-day, Les Vignes → Le Rozier (about 10 km): the great classic of the gorges, a mix of calm water and small, playful rapids, perfect for families
• The full day, starting from La Malène: to pass through Les Détroits, the narrowest and most spectacular passage in the gorges, beneath cliffs hundreds of metres high
• The short trip, Le Rozier → Peyreleau: a gentle warm-up, perfect for a first time or with young children

Life jacket provided, from age 6 and you must be able to swim. The exact routes, times and prices are on canoelerozier.fr, and we'll advise you on the right starting point for your children's ages at reception.

Hike the Causses and the gorges

Le Rozier is a crossroads of trails: you set off on foot from the village, no car needed. The GR ® de Pays "Tour du Causse Méjean", the GR 6, GR 62, the new GR 736 “Gorges and Tarn Valley” and the Chemin de Saint-Guilhem pass through or start right here.

• The Roc du Capluc (2 h round trip), the iconic viewpoint above the Tarn-Jonte confluence, with a 360° view
• The Corniches du Causse Méjean trail (full day), vertigo guaranteed high above the Jonte
• The Vase de Sèvres and the Vase de Chine, ruin-like rock formations reachable in half a day
• Cassagnes and the hamlet of l'Aubiguse, an easy balcony loop, ideal at sunset
• The Causse Noir and the Chaos de Montpellier-le-Vieux, the "city of stones", 30 min away by car

Climbing & via ferrata in the Gorges de la Jonte

The limestone cliffs that frame Le Rozier are a renowned playground. Several hundred bolted routes, from grade 4 to 8, on compact, grippy rock.

• La Madeleine & Le Truel, sectors for experienced climbers, with multi-pitch routes
• The Liaucous via ferrata (30 min), a secured aerial route, family-friendly with a guide

Watch the griffon vultures

Reintroduced in the 1980s, the griffon vultures now number in the hundreds as they soar above the gorges. It's one of the finest wildlife sights in France, freely visible in the sky over the gorges.

• The Maison des Vautours at Saint-Pierre-des-Tripiers (15 km), viewpoint, spotting scopes, cameras on the nests
• The Belvédère des Vautours on the Jonte road, free observation
• Four species present: griffon vulture, cinereous vulture, Egyptian vulture, and the bearded vulture now returning

Listed villages, caves and the Millau viaduct

The area packs in a rare density of remarkable sites, all less than an hour away:

• Sainte-Énimie (28 km), one of the Plus Beaux Villages de France, in the heart of the gorges
• La Malène & Les Détroits, the boatmen's punt crossing, an institution
• Peyreleau & Le Rozier, the two villages of the confluence, straddling Lozère and Aveyron
• The Aven Armand (40 km), the finest cave on the Causse Méjean, a forest of stalagmites
• The Millau viaduct (21 km), the tallest bridge in the world, with its viewing area
• Roquefort-sur-Soulzon (45 km), a tour of the ripening cellars of the famous cheese

Taste the produce of the Causses

The region is an exceptional terroir. You'll find some of it in our shop (bread, cheeses, charcuterie), and the rest at the markets nearby.
